Welcome to the Media Center

For next 20 minutes we will be getting to know your Media Center. Use the CHS Media Website to locate your answers. Lets get started.


Use the numbered paper Ms. Mignardi has given you to record your answers.

Calvert County Public Schools and Calvert High School subscribes to many databases for your reference/research needs. Calvert County Public Library also subscribes to databases that you may use. Take a look at the databases listed on the sidebar of the Media Center home page.

Student Resource Center is one of my favorite databases. From the CHS Media Website click on Student Resource Center. Look up Edward Kennedy. Click on one of the biographical articles about him.

9. Senator Kennedy was born in what city and state?

10. The Senator was in the military. During what war did he serve in the military?

11. What was Senator Kennedy's middle name?

12. Now let's try another database, World Book Encyclopedia. From the CHS Media Website click on World Book. From World Book click on World Book Student. Look up information on Edward Kennedy. Click on an article about the Senator.

Does this database give you the same information as Student Resource Center? Explain your answer.

NoodleTools

18. NoodleTools is an awesome bibliography citation composer. You will be using it often throughout this school year and throughout your high school career. Today we will be setting up your NoodleTools account. The account we set up today will be the account you will use this year as well as in 10th, 11th, and 12th grade. From the CHS Media Website click on How to set up a NoodleTools account. (Located on the sidebar under Teacher Resources)

Follow the directions and set up your NoodleTools account. Write you Personal ID and Password on the numbered paper (question 18). Remember your personal ID should be your first name and last name.

Now that you have written your personal ID on the numbered paper given to you by Ms. Mignardi click on the link below and fill in you personal ID, password, English teacher and the period you have English. Make sure you click on submit when you are done.

19. Listed below is information needed to cite the book Outsiders. Use the information provided and cite the book using your newly created NoodleTools account.

(a) Create a list titled Orientation.

(b) Choose Book from the drop down menu (we are citing a printed copy).

(c) Choose Print

(d) We are citing the entire book.

(e) Title: Outsiders, Author: S.E. Hinton, Publisher: Viking Press, City Published: New York, Year Published: 1990.

Once you have clicked Generate Citation please click on the Share button. Check the board for you teacher's class name.

20. Bonus: Citing a Time Magazine article located in the electronic database Student Resource Center- Gold. If you have signed out of NoodleTools please sign back in. We will add this citation to your Orientation list.

  • Choose Online Database from the drop down menu.
  • This article is from Time Magazine which was originally published in print.
  • When citation is complete - click on generate citation.

You do not need to share your list again. Once a list is shared with your teacher they will see all updates made.
